A few weeks ago I visited the Boijmans van Beuningen museum in Rotterdam. This was my first time visiting this museum, so this made it extra exciting! Museum Boijmans van Beuningen is one of the oldest museums from the Netherlands. Jurist and collector Boijmans s (1767 – 1847) left his art collection to the city Rotterdam. In 1958 acquired the museum the collection from Van Beuningen and with this the name was expanded. In the museum you will find an extensive collection paintings, utensils and sculptures. The museum has a number of unique paintings, such as ‘The little tower of Babel’ by Pieter Bruegel de Oude, ‘The three Marys’ by Jan van Eyck, ‘Titus’ by Rembrandt and the ‘Lippenbank’ by Salvador Dalà. The museum has both medieval European work and modern art. The collection of drawings and prints, early Dutch paintings, impressionism and surrealism are among the best in the world! The museum also organizes unique exhibitions throughout the year.
What I like about Boijmans van Beuningen is that there are so many different kinds of art to see. Image, sound, painting, video, (comic) books, sculptures.. Big chance that there is something that you like. I especially like modern art but I also like some paintings that are more surrealistic.
I will definitely visit the Boijmans van Beuningen museum again. I have not seen everything yet because I went late that day. You can stroll around here for hours because there is so much to see and to do. If you’re in Rotterdam and you want to visit a museum, than definitely go to museum Boijmans van Beuningen!
