Documentary – Bart Rombout

This is a small part of the story of my best friend Bart. I met Bart through my dad nearly a year ago and we had an instant click. He was there for my during one of the hardest parts of my life. We have a lot in common; he also lost both of his parents, we both are familiar with anxiety and depression but we’re also both very creative. Bart’s biggest struggle is his chronic depression which he’s dealing with for the biggest part of his life. I can say that I have nothing but respect for him and how he’s dealing with his life after living with him for two months. He let me stay with him because I was struggling with some shit too. This shows a lot about his personality and that he has the biggest heart.

Bart recently started a new project with photographer Kevita Junior┬ácalled ‘Leven met Bart’ (Life with Bart). This is a platform that shows the path through his depression and everything that has to do with it. He started to work out under the guidance of personal trainer Lillian Don at Gym Dordrecht. He almost runs everyday now and he follows yoga lessons which also helps him to clear his mind but he still has to fight off his daily demons. I admire the way he deals with it and how he talks about it so openly with his cynical sense of humor. He’s the most real person I know and I wish he could see himself the way I see him.

Kevita approached Bart because she was touched by his story and wanted to do something with it, so she has been following him for 3 months now to make a photo documentary about his life. This will take a year and after that there will be an exhibition. In the meantime you can follow their journey on Instagram @leven_met_bart
