Things you should know about Budapest

Last week I went to Budapest with my friend Sieske. Anouk went there 3 months ago. She and a few other people recommended me to go there so I booked a flight and an Airbnb for 5 days.

Budapest is the combination of the cities Buda and Pest. At first we stayed in Pest but not for long because after Sieske took a shower the glass shower door fell over her so we had to go to the hospital to get stitches. It was terrible and it made me realize how much I appreciate the health care in the Netherlands. We just got tickets to Sziget for the next day and an hour later we were rushing to the hospital to get the help she needed. We went to 4 different hospitals in 2 days. Because of all the damage in our apartment we switched to another apartment in Buda.

I highly recommend to check if you have the right insurance before going on a trip. I think the best way to visit this city is with a travel organization. This way you can still do your own thing but those organizations know the city and like this you will always have people to rely on. It’s always a good idea to do some research about the health care in other countries. Better to be safe than to be sorry!

After all the drama it was time to make the best of our trip and to give Budapest the chance to make me forget about my first impression of the city.

I love the buildings in Budapest and like Anouk said it’s similar to Barcelona. The streets and the overall look of the city reminds me a little of New York. I’ve never went to Barcelona nor New York but find out yourself.

We went to a Roman Catholic church, called the Matthias Church, in Buda  I like how most of the churches in Budapest have one black tower on top.

The church was so beautiful and unique. Most churches only have ornamental painting on the ceiling but this church  was completely painted on the inside.

The food in Budapest was great. We just bumped in to cute restaurants or cafés every time. The morning before our flight back home we searched on our phones for the nearest place to have breakfast. When we arrived at Liberté we were pretty amazed. It was such a cute place with a beautiful terrace. We had waffles with Nutella and fresh fruit.

Because of everything that happened we weren’t able to visit and to photograph all the places we planned to visit when we booked this trip. I prefer analog shots and I actually have three analog camera’s but I never use them. I don’t have a good reason for that, haha. I used the Huji app on my phone for this trip and I use VSCO or Lightroom to edit the photo’s on my phone.

Here’s a list of all the places we visited:

Vintage StoreRetrock

Chocolate cake to eat the pain awayThe Fat Fairy

Bagels for lunchInez Bagel Shop

Breakfast (try the Nutella waffles) – Liberté

Quesadillas and lemonadeBecketts Irish Pub

Chicken tagine with couscous for dinner – DOBRUMBA

Which city should I visit next? Let me know!
